Eldritch – Gaia’s Legacy

Posted in Uncategorized on November 12, 2011 by skiessetablaze

Go get this album if you want to rock your face off. I mean who fucking new Italians could throw down like this and coming off of not having an album out for nearly 5 years? They sure have come along way from Seeds of Rage. Yes I know the lineup has changed but the core sound has remained constant. Check them out on tour coming to a city near you. PS…listen for the sound clips from Al Gore.

White Willow – Terminal Twilight

Posted in Uncategorized on November 12, 2011 by skiessetablaze

What a return album from Norway’s White Willow. After coming of a 4 year hiatus, the progressive rock group from Norway returns with their 6th album and it has reached new heights and has changed alot from their mid 90’s sound. The album released back in October through Termo Records. Be sure to catch the band in 2012 from what I was told doing festivals throughout Europe with a possible US tour. Check their website for any upcoming news: http://www.whitewillow.info/

Widow- Life’s Blood…Out 11/11/11

Posted in Uncategorized on November 12, 2011 by skiessetablaze

What is there to say about this band? I mean really? The melodies, the heaviness, and just pure good metal from good ol’ Raleigh, North Carolina.  The 4th album from Widow in my opinion is by far the best release to date. The vocals are very clean and very smooth. Guitar riffs are pure and fast and likewise with the drums and bass lines. The album is released on Pure Steel records (Zandale, Sleepy Hollow, etc.). Be sure to catch them on tour in 2012 in the states and maybe at a festival on the other side of the Atlantic.

Track Listing for Life’s Blood:

1. Lady Twilight

2. In Dreams

3. Take Hold of the Night

4. Another Fallen Angel

5. Embrace it

6. Behind the Light

7. The Burning Ones

8. Live Beyond

9 Judgment Day

10. I Scream for Ice Queen

11. Remembering

12. The one I know

New Job For A Cowboy EP- Gloom

Posted in Uncategorized on May 28, 2011 by skiessetablaze

Holy shit. Is is just me or is this what everyone was hoping for when JFAC was dropping a new EP. I mean Death Metal is just oozing from this entire EP. The new line up looks like its paying dividends. A followup to their album Doom which was good in its own right but this just blows it away. The EP, which is produced by Jason Secouf (All That Remains, Charred Walls of the Damned) is probably the best thing that JFAC has written in my opinion. The EP drops on June 7th and I suggest picking it up. Link below to pre-order…

Interview with Dave Brockie from GWAR

Posted in Uncategorized on May 27, 2011 by skiessetablaze

So a few weeks back I had the chance to interview the lead singer of one of my top 5 bands of all time, Dave Brockie AKA Oderus from GWAR. What a down to earth guy. The interview happened backstage at the National in Richmond VA. The band, GWAR, was wrapping up their tour with a final stop in their hometown. He had some great words of wisdom if you could call them that. Enjoy:

New Hate Eternal Album-Phoenix Amongst The Ashes

Posted in Uncategorized on May 12, 2011 by skiessetablaze

Welp, they are at it again. Hate Eternal’s new album is fierce and very heavy. It almost takes me back to the bands early album King of All Kings.  It follows their previous album of Fury and Flames which was a great album but was tough to listen to as it didnt contain the great works of Jared Anderson who passed away a few years prior. In this album I noticed alot of heavier drumming and more defined guitar solos which differ from the earlier albums. Jade Simonetto is turning into another very technical drummer and it shows in his double kicks and snare work. If you have the chance, download the album via iTunes. It dropped yesterday May 10th.

Till next time…rock on dudes.

Review of the Cradle of Filth Show

Posted in Uncategorized on May 11, 2011 by skiessetablaze

Sorry for the delay folks. Had some technical issues on my end.

The Cradle of Filth show was kick ass. They completely owned the crowd and for it being the last show of the tour, they didnt show one sign of fatigue at all. This was my 3rd of 4th time seeing the dudes at The Norva in Norfolk VA and to me it seems like they get better and better each time. They played a mix of old and new which was played to perfection. (Set list below). The only downfall with the show was it wasnt packed as I thought it was going to be and it seemed as if Dani’s microphone kept crapping out but a new mic was tossed in almost immediately. I spoke with Paul after the show, had a beer, and he said he looks forward to coming back later this year which leads me to believe they are going to do a followup tour. He didnt say if they were going to be headlining or supporting so we will wait and see.

Well, till the next show…rock on.

Setlist:

Humana Inspired To Nightmare
Heaven Torn Asunder
Funeral in Carpathia
Honey and Sulphur
Lilith Immaculate
Her Ghost in the Fog
Nymphetamine (Fix)
The Principle of Evil Made Flesh
Under Huntress Moon
Ebony Dressed for Sunset
The Forest Whispers My Name
Ave Satani
Cruelty Brought Thee Orchids
From the Cradle to Enslave
Summer Dying Fast

Interview with Paul Allendar

A few weeks ago I had the opportunity to speak with Paul Allendar who is the lead guitarist from Cradle of Filth. What a great guy. Cradle played the Norva on March 8th and I attended the show and the review will be forthcoming.

Whitechapel show and interview

Posted in Uncategorized on March 8, 2011 by skiessetablaze

So Whitechapel rolled through Richmond VA back in February on “The Welcome to Hell” tour. They were joined by Acacia Strain, Veil of Maya, Chelsea Grin, and I Declare War.  The show was held at The National on Broad St. in downtown Richmond. The venue is a perfect place to go see a show.  The night started out kinda crappy as one of the local bands couldnt get their equipment set up and caused a delay. However, when I Declare War came on, the night corrected itself. With their disgusting riffs and just terrific breakdowns, they really got the crowed amped. Chelsea Grin then took the stage and dominated as well. The fine tuned guitar solos and their stage presence really took over. I caught only the tail end of Veil of Maya but could hear the crowd getting more pumped. Acacia Strain then burst onto the stage and dominated. Vince completely played off the crowd. With every jaw dropping riff and breakdown, you can just see the complete domination of the band on the stage. They really got the crowd juiced for the main course, WHITECHAPEL. What a great show they put on. Bringing a mixture of old and new to the stage really got everyone moving. You know when you are at a great metal show when the lead vocalist Phil engages the crowd, gets down along the fenceline, and just tears that place apart. Ben, Alex, and Zach sure let their fingers and guitars do the talking. Gabe worked the crowd and new comer to the band, Ben really seemed amped behind the drums. Hands down one of the better metal shows I have been too in quite sometime.

Before the show, I sat down with guitarist Alex for a few questions. Sorry about the bad lighting, I forgot to get the shades opened up.
